A FLOODLIGHT failure put paid to Maldon and Tiptree’s game with Bury Town at Park Drive on Saturday, writes LEE WITNEY.

The Pitching In Isthmian League division north game was abandoned at half-time with the score at 1-1, after the lights went out.

A club statement read: 'Apologies to everyone who attended our match versus Bury Town on Saturday at Park Drive which was abandoned on safety grounds by the match officials following the failure of two of our floodlights.

'We are currently re-arranging the fixture and will post details when known.

'Admission to this game will be free of charge.'

After a slow start to the game that saw both sides create little in the way of clearcut chances, Louis Britton put the Jammers ahead in the 13th minute.

He latched onto a lovely through ball from Harry Phillips to slide home past goalkeeper Charlie Beckwith.

Liam Bailey's side seemed to seize the initiative following the goal and nearly doubled their lead after half an hour as George Smith had a shot flapped away by the keeper, after a free-kick had been recycled back into the box.

With half-time approaching, Bury equalised with a long-range effort from Ryan Horne that gave the unsighted Luca Collins no chance.

It all went dark after that, as one set of floodlights failed.

They eventually came back on following a delayed start to the second half but three minutes into proceedings they went again, giving the referee little choice but to abandon the game.
