BROTHERS Charles and Paul Harris combined to win Maldon Golf Club's Durkin Cup.

They produced an excellent score of 39 points to triumph in the annual family foursomes competition, contested by 24 members.

Runners-up were father and son pairing Mark and Matthew Hinton with 38 points.

They just pipped another father-and-son team, Martin and Marley Read, on countback.

Darren and Billy Mason were fourth with 37 points, after just edging out Ray and Dan Gardner.

This year's event was really well supported with a mixture of fathers and sons, brothers, husband and wife and grandfather and grandson pairings.

Earlier in the day, 36 Maldon GC members played a team swindle competition with the best two from three scores counting on each hole.

The runaway winners were Jim Scott, Ben Griffiths and Des Bastian, who returned an unbelievable 95 points.

This gave them an 11-shot victory from Chris Purkiss, Lenny Blagden and Ricky Todd, who shot 84.

In third spot on 81 points were Ian Ladkin, George Watson and John Abbott.

The prizes for nearest the pin went to Chris Purkiss on the par three fifth/14th and to David Jones for the closest second shot to the par four sixth/15th.
