THE weather forecast of heavy rain proved thankfully incorrect for Maldon Cycling Club as they managed to hold their evening ten-mile time trial event on the E21/10 course.

Fastest rider on the night was Harry Paine of VCUK PH-MAS CT with a time of 22 minutes four seconds as a junior, while the fastest Maldon rider was Adrian Tovey.

Tovey finished in a time of 23m 13s and was closely followed by Hamish Hore with a time of 23m 26s.

A triple tandem was ridden round the course by Maldon riders Martin Hipsey, Joe Clark and Chris Ridley and finished in a very respectable time of 27m 40s.

The club thanked those who helped ensure the event went ahead, but they are still looking for assistant timekeepers and marshals for upcoming club events.

More details are available at www.madcc.org.uk and without further volunteers these club events will have to be cancelled.

Meanwhile, Maldon had three riders, Anthony Marsh, Mark Alsop and Josh Doe, representing them in the Full Gas Cycling Summer series at the Lea Valley Velopark.

Alsop was having a storming race until he was clipped by another rider, which caused a mechanical problem and saw him have to retire.

Marsh clipped off the front with three laps to go but in the end, was beaten in a bunch sprint, while Doe not only finished his first race in the bunch but was also very active throughout the race and proved he is one to watch for the future.
