MALDON Golf Club held their annual captains' drive-in.

Club captain Terry Butcher, ladies' captain Mary King and seniors' captain Eric Bane all teed off in front of a large crowd of members and guests.

The drive-in was followed by a fantastic display of trick shots by renowned PGA professional and trick-shot specialist, Kevin Carpenter.

Carpenter, who tours the world with his displays, treated the large crowd of members and guests to tricks.

They included juggling a golf ball on a pitching wedge while riding a unicycle and driving golf balls off extra high tees while kneeling on an exercise ball.

He also produced many other outstanding feats of golfing dexterity and hand-eye co-ordination.

Maldon GC's men's section competed for the Bentall Cup.

It is the oldest trophy currently contested at the club, having first been presented in 1899.

Pete Hawkins (five handicap) produced a fine two-under-par score of nett 69 to win the competition, which was played as a full handicap medal off the white tees.

Runner-up was Billy Mason (four) with nett 70, ahead of third-placed Marley Read (26) on nett 72.

Peter Bibby (16) was fourth with nett 73 while club chairman Tony Davis (8) took fifth place on countback with nett 74.

The nearest the pin prizes were won by Dave Follows on the par-three fifth/14th hole and by Dave Porter for the closest second shot on the par four sixth/15th.

Maldon claimed victory in their Seniors' friendly match at home to Clacton GC.
