BURNHAM Ramblers manager Keith Wilson was left devastated by his side’s performance last weekend.

The Ramblers suffered a 4-2 defeat at Clapton in their Essex Senior League encounter in what Wilson described as one of the worst performances he has witnessed.

This followed on from a good 2-0 away win at Waltham Forest last Wednesday.

This weekend Ramblers entertain Wadham Lodge and Wilson wants a big reaction from his side.

Wilson said: “We have Wadham Lodge on Saturday and if we turn up like we did at Clapton then we are going to get absolutely annihilated.

“I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to take training on Tuesday, so I gave the players the night off.

“But they have to come to training tonight and come out on Saturday showing that they want to fight for the club.

“I am still toying with the idea of getting rid of a few of the players.

“It’s chalk and cheese at the moment.

“We won 2-0 at Waltham Forest last Wednesday.

“We could have scored eight that night.

“Maybe it’s my fault, maybe I have too many pretty footballers and not enough who are prepared to roll their sleeves up and do the ugly stuff.”

Wilson had been looking forward to the match at Clapton in front of what is always an enthusisatic crowd.

He was hoping that the atmosphere would lift his players to put in a good performance.

However, goals from Charlie Kirby and Lloyd Wilson were little consolation for the Burnham manager as he witnessed what he described as an embarrasing performance from his side.

He said: “The Clapton crowd were brilliant. I would play in front of them every week – there 250 plus and they didn’t stop singing all afternoon.

“Unfortunately we were completely at the other end of the spectrum.

“We were embarrasing on Saturday.

“The Clapton supporters were good but their side, no disrespect, aren’t world beaters.

“They will finish somewhere in mid-table.

“We were gutless, we had nothing to give on the pitch.

“That performance still hurts, I thought I might have got over it by now.

“We were an absolute disgrace from the first minute to the last.

“We conceded a goal after the first minute came back into the game and then conceded another after 20 minutes.

“Then a minute after the break they made it 3-1.

“Then we had Joel Barrett sent off for a second yellow card. We dragged it back to 3-2 and with five minutes to go and you think ‘you know, maybe we can get something from the game’.

“But from the kick-off, they went back up the other end and made it 4-2.”
