MALDON Golf Club’s men’s section continued their Ben Volta Winter League action on Sunday with a rearranged fixture.

Round six, originally scheduled for January 4, had been cancelled due to the weather and so a free Sunday was used to re-schedule the betterball, stableford competition.

Despite the cold, frosty morning, 30 pairs turned out to compete for league points and the honour of winning on the day.

First place this week went to Garth Milford and John Dormon with 41 points.

Second were Alan Brown and Mike Kempen with 40 points, on countback, thereby consolidating their position as league leaders.

Third place went to Tony Davis and Martin Read, while Aaron Dickson and Stuart Reece-Ford were fourth on 39 and in fifth were Mark Hinton and Roy Hurren with 38.

The nearest-the-pin prize for the second shot to the par four sixth/15th hole this week went to 83-year-old Peter Harper, a former Heybridge Swifts FC player as far back as the early 1960s, and a much respected and long-standing Maldon Golf Club member.

With only four rounds left in this year’s Winter League competition it is still mathematically possible for any one of 14 pairs to secure the 2014/15 title.
