THE final week of the Burnham on Crouch men’s section’s Winter League B has taken place.

Eight games played with two discards would see the top two teams in each group go through to the quarter-finals.

In league B1, Don Vidgeon and Tom Cecil were already in the top spot so they scored 44 points and a maximum 12 points to secure first place with 58.

Steve Smith and Matthew Duck were in second place but only scored five points this week and they were out of the running. Jamie Gold and Matthew Fry played well and scored 43 and ten but this was only enough to put them in third place with 52.

Paul Winn and Steve Hitchens scored 39 and eight which was just enough to squeeze them into second with 53.

In league B2, Mickey Parish and Ricky Corfield had a good week scoring 43 and 12 but, after some indifferent weeks, it was not enough to get into the top two places.

Graham Bowers and Fenton Yeulett consolidated their lead with 39 and second place with ten and lead the group impressively with 62. Simon Vidgeon and George Grimes scored 39 and eight and to take overall second place with 57.

The ladies were also out this last week playing the February stableford.

The eight Saturday girls found themselves with frosty ground and temporary greens and therefore a non- qualifier.

Results: 1 Claire Lewis 39pts, 2 Alison Bowers 37, 3 Denise Howat 36.

On the Thursday 17 ladies took to the field for a qualifying competition.

Results: 1 Anne James 34 pts, 2 Linda Stevens 33pts, 3 Mel Lewis 28 pts.
