BURNHAM Sports will look to get back to winning ways when they play away to Great Totham on Saturday.
Sports were without a fixture last weekend, owing to their intended opponents Chignal dropping out of the league, and, before that, had lost successive fixtures to surrender top spot in the T.Rippon Mid-Essex League first division.
However, their promotion chances were boosted while they were twiddling their thumbs because Rettendon, the new leaders, suffered a surprise defeat at home to Rankins, while Goresbrook, the title favourites, were frustrated by rain washing out their game against Rayleigh.
As a consequence, Burnham trail Rettendon and Goresbrook – who play each other on Saturday – by 19 points but they have a game in hand on each, with 26 points on offer every match.
“There is everything to play for going into the second half of the season,” Jamie Hamilton, the Burnham captain, said. “Overall, we’ve bowled up until now – especially Robin Whittaker – but there is room for improvement in both our batting and fielding. We will take each game as it comes and see what happens”
