A POLITICIAN has urged residents on Canvey to come forward if their homes have been hit by flooding today.

Rebecca Harris, Tory MP for Castle Point, made the plea after heavy rainfall today left large parts of the island affected by flooding.

Major problems with drainage on Canvey were exposed when two major floods devastated the island in 2013 and 2014.

Last year, Mrs Harris was part of a delegation which presented a case for £24.5million of Government funding for Canvey at Parliament.

In a post on Facebook, Mrs Harris said: "I am anxious to hear from anyone who has been affected by today's flash floods on the island.

"In particular, I want to hear from those who have experienced flooding inside their property. Let me know your location and the extent of the problem.

"I am still waiting for the various relevant agencies to put together a properly costed plan of action for Canvey.

"Until they put this together we are unable to apply for further funding from the Government.

"This latest downpour makes is imperative that this plan is put together as soon as possible.

"I will be on the Island today so that I can see the problems first hand."
