A CHILDREN'S charity were presented with a cheque for £1,385 by a beauty queen.

Rebecca Smith, who has been crowned Miss London City 2016, chose Brainwave Children's Charity, based in Newland Street in Witham, to support during her reign and has managed to raise the incredible amount already.

Before handing over the cheque, Rebecca was given a tour of the Witham centre and spent time learning about Brainwave's work with children who have additional needs to help them achieve their potential.

Gerry Gould, community manager for Brainwave, said: "It was lovely meeting Rebecca and showing her round our children’s therapy centre and introducing her to our therapists.

"We cannot thank her enough for all her fundraising endeavours to raise this wonderful amount which will go towards enabling us to continue offering our therapy service to the lovely children and their families that we see and we look forward to working with her during her reign as Miss London City 2016.

"We hope she has a great time and enjoys every minute."

A Miss London City spokesman said: "Rebecca's year ahead as the Newly Crowned Miss London City 2016 will be a dynamic year filled with ambassadorial opportunities in representing her country, a responsibility as an organisation in which we take in high due care, and we know that Rebecca will Flourish, and she has the most exciting, exhilarating and successful year ahead."
