A YOUNG Essex actor is walking on air after winning a BAFTA for his performance in a BBC comedy.

Lenny Rush, 14, won the award for his role in the BBC show Am I Being Unreasonable.

The comedy-thriller was written by and starred Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli.

Lenny plays the main character Nic’s son Ollie.

As he accepted the award he said: “I just want to say I’m so happy, I can’t believe I won amongst so many other great nominees.”

He told reporters after the ceremony: “I’ve still not processed it.

“I’m over the moon.

“Daisy (May Cooper)’s the best… the whole crew are amazing, they’re like one big family.”

He added that he has eight little shelves above his “telly” and will place the award “right in the middle”.

The six-part British comedy-thriller series, which is on BBC iPlayer, is about “obsessive friendship, maternal paranoia – and a dead cat”.

Lenny, who comes from Burnham and goes to Ormiston Rivers Academy, has already won multiple awards this year as he received a breakthrough award at the 2023 National Comedy Awards, as well as two awards at the 2023 Royal Television Society Programme Awards, the Breakthrough Award, and best male Comedy Performance.Maldon and Burnham Standard: Award winning: Lenny Rush at the BAFTA awardsAward winning: Lenny Rush at the BAFTA awards (Image: PA)

He has also secured multiple theatre and TV roles, including stints on the BBC services Apple Tree House and The Dumping Ground.

Lenny has also worked at the Old Vic theatre in London for several years, where he is an access ambassador for people with disabilities.

He has become a real inspiration for his fellow students at Ormiston Rivers Academy – which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT).

Joanne Williams, principal at Ormiston Rivers Academy, said: “We are absolutely delighted to see Lenny’s talents being recognised by BAFTA, which is extremely well-deserved.

“It has been a pleasure to watch Lenny’s career flourish and I know there are many more amazing opportunities and achievements ahead of him.

“He is an incredible inspiration for all of us here, and we are so pleased to be able to cheer him on.”
