ONE in 10 workers and jobseekers in the Maldon district have no qualifications whatsoever, new figures show.

The latest Census figures from the Office for National Statistics show 32,585 people were eligible to work in Maldon in 2021.

Of them, 3,055 - 9.4 per cent - had no qualifications whatsoever.

Meanwhile, 12 per cent had at least one GCSE or equivalent qualification, 18 per cent had five or more GCSEs at A* to C to levels nine to four, 23 per cent had two A-levels or equivalent, and 30 per cent had a degree or higher education qualification.

Combining the figures means the Maldon workforce ranks 34th in the East of England and 288th across England and Wales.

Census figures also show 4,980 - 16 per cent - of 31,255 workers in Maldon were in professional occupations.

Across England and Wales, 5.6 million people - 22 per cent - worked in a professional occupation.
