The speaker at the next meeting of Woodham Walter Women's Club, at 7.30pm on February 26, will be Linda Pudney, a member of the club.

She will be talking about her charity work, which includes help with the very successful Shoe Box Appeal. She will bring along a video showing the journey of the shoe boxes from the storage depots here to their final destinations in Eastern Europe and parts of Africa.

The following events are taking place at the pub during February, so do come along and enjoy the fun.

On Thursday February 14 there is a special St Valentine's menu at a set price of £15 including a gift for the lady, or a choice from the extensive menu.

Watch the rugby Six Nations tournament throughout February on the big screen, with a special rugby menu and promotions on ales during that time.

On Sunday February 17, the Trivia Quiz, which was very successful last month and only costs £1 per head, begins at 8pm. The proceeds go to Village Hall funds.

Prizes include meal vouchers.

WHIST DRIVES

A Whist drive was held in the village hall on the first Wednesday of February, with three-andthree- quarter tables in play. Mr A C Clark was MC.

There was a tie for first place between Mrs Ann Matthams and Ian Harvey, each with a score of 169. In third, three tricks behind, was Mrs Janet Hugging, with the consolation going to Mrs Hilda Enefer.

The snowball was not won and winners of other prizes were Mrs Pat Burton and Trevor Matthams.

A military whist drive was held in the village hall on the last Wednesday of January. There were four-and-a-half tables in play and Mr A C Clark was again MC.

The first table, with 27 flags, was that occupied by Mrs Lorraine Bradley, Miss Rita Ellis, Mrs Pat Clark and Basil Eves.

Second, with 24 flags, were Miss Sue Vale, Mrs Pat Burton, Ann and Trevor Matthams.

Winners of other prizes were Mrs Ann Matthams and Mrs Pearl Miles.
