MONTHLY WALKS

Dogs are welcome on the monthly country rambles run by our Rector, the Rev Jonathan Pearce.

Meet him on the second Thursday in the month, February 14, at 1.45pm for 2pm at Goldhanger Church.

Walks last between 90 minutes and two hours and provide an opportunity not only to get out into the open air but also to do some bird watching.

The afternoon finishes with refreshments and a short act of worship in the church.

CHOIR'S CATHEDRAL TRIP

The reputation of the joint choir of All Saints and St Peter's Church, Goldhanger, is obviously growing.

Following their weekend appearances in Norwich Cathedral, members have been invited to sing alongside Witham choristers at Evensong in Chelmsford Cathedral, at 5.15pm on Saturday, February 16.

WOMEN'S SUPPER

South African Lesley Lee will be the speaker at a Woman of the Spirit supper to be held at the Barn Church, Great Totham, on Friday March 7, at 7.15 for 7.30pm.

The cost is £5 and bookings should be made with Little Totham Evangelical Church member Maureen Morant on 858041.

CONCERT

If you fancy an evening of country- flavoured gospel music, turn up at Little Totham Evangelical Church on Saturday March 1, from 7pm.

This is the launch night of a new group Dove Outreach Ministry that includes church members Monica and Fred.

MOTHERING SUNDAY

This month's family service at All Saints is particularly special because it coincides with the day we thank God for mothers.

The 11am service on March 2 gives everyone, of whatever age, the opportunity to remember the love and care they have received.

There will be posies for the youngsters to present to their mothers and older people are invited to bring photographs to fill the church with memories of their childhood and their mothers.

UNWANTED GIFTS

Thanks to those of you who got in touch with unwanted presents for this summer's All Saints tombola.

There is still room in the Smith's prize box, so pick up the telephone if you receive something you simply will never use or just plain hate.

This important sideshow makes its first appearance in May at the car rally, so there is plenty of time to hunt round the house.

THE SWAN

It's goodbye and thanks to Gavin and Becky after just over a year running the village pub.

They've caught the travelling bug and are off with the dogs - thank goodness for pooch passports - to spend at least six months exploring France.

John is back in charge as mine host and promises plenty of surprises over the next few months.

CHILDREN'S SOCIETY

More than 100 adults and 50 children began their Christmas celebrations at All Saints Christingle service.

Thanks to their generosity, a record collection was taken for the work of the Children's Society among young people throughout the country. Just over £216 was collected, with a further £43 to come through the Government's Gift Aid scheme, making a grand total of £259.

WOMEN'S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER

The international Women's World Day of Prayer will be celebrated at All Saints on Friday March 7.

Coffee will be served from 11am, followed by readings and meditation and a chance to find out something about the country and its people. Lunch with a South American flavour will be served at 1pm, followed by a service put together by the women of Guyana.

MUMS AND BABIES

After discussions with new mums, the get-together in All Saints is being changed to the first Thursday of the month.

Church link Angela Fuller says the new babies are aged one year and younger, so don't worry if they are still very small. It is good to see you and, as the children grow older, they will already know each other.

Drop in to the warm church between 2pm and 4pm and leave when the little ones get tired.

Bring a friend if you like, and pass the information on to anyone else who may be interested.

This month's date is Thursday February 7 and the rest of the year's meetings are: March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3, September 4 (no meeting in August), October 2, November 6 and December 4.

YOGA

There was no class on half-term Monday, February 11, but sessions resume the following week on Monday, February 18.

The 90-minute sessions are led by qualified yoga teacher Marion Pidgeon in the East Essex Scout headquarters opposite Wickham Bishops tennis club, in Great Totham Road, starting at 8pm.

They are suitable for all ages and all abilities, and are ideal for relieving the stress of busy lives.

Chocolate and chat are the themes of this month's meeting of All Saints village women's group.

Our hostess is Erica Cater, at Poplars in Wash Lane - the last house on the left before the retired greyhound centre on the right.

Note the date change to Wednesday February 13, from 8pm.

There will be an opportunity to sample chocolates as well as to meet your neighbours.
