HEALTHCARE leaders will be quizzed by councillors on how they plan to help Maldon’s at-capacity GP surgeries.

Bosses from the Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, NHS England, Mid Essex Health Trust and the Success Regime will come before Maldon District Council’s overview and scrutiny committee.

They will face questions on the status of a new community hospital and concerns over primary care.

The meeting comes just weeks after it was revealed both the Blackwater Medical Centre and Longfield Medical Centre had to “temporarily” close their patients list over a GP shortage.

Councillors are set to question NHS bosses over worries housing developers are not being told to hand over enough cash to support surgeries.

Mark Heard, chairman of the committee, said: “What we need is an update on what is happening with the hospital, what is happening with primary care and the way forward."

The CCG is currently considering four options for Maldon’s hospital, including refurbishing St Peter’s, knocking it down and rebuilding it or putting up a base on a new site.

The meeting takes place at the council offices in Princes Road, Maldon, at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
