A PIECE of abandoned Maldon woodland is set to be transformed into ten ground breaking eco homes.

Plans for the land at Limebrook Way, which is owned by Maldon Wick Ltd, has been submitted to Maldon District Council.

The ten environmentally friendly homes have been designed by award winning architects ZEDfactory.

It will see the homes, which will have integrated renewable energy technologies, built around a communal woodland area.

The homes will have solar panels and will be able to produce surplus energy which could be used to power electric vehicles.

The developers claims the scheme will see the woodland “protected and enhanced” by the scheme.

A spokesman from Maldon Wick Ltd said: “This site has been unloved for a number of years.

“There are access challenges and as it is not actively managed some of the trees have grown onto unsuitable ground causing some to topple.

“In order to put an effective management regime in place we are proposing a handful of some of the most environmentally friendly homes in the country sitting within this woodland site.

“All of the woodland outside the curtilage of the gardens will become a protected woodland which will be looked after by a management company under the control of the new Limebrook Glade community for perpetuity.

“This will ensure that residents can still enjoy the woodland with the knowledge that it is being safely cared for.”

The plans will be subject to approval from the council.
