EMERGENCY services were called to a road accident in Bradwell-on-Sea this morning.

The accident involving a Ducati motorbike and a Maldon District Council refuse truck took place on Maldon Road.

The road was blocked for an hour following the incident but has now been cleared.

Ambulance crews were called to the scene at 7.43am, where they treated a male in his 50’s.

The man has been transported to Broomfield Hospital with hip and leg injuries.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We received a call at 7.43am to report an RTC involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.

“We sent a rapid response team, an ambulance crew and an air ambulance from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust.

“One patient, the motorcyclist, a male in his 50’s, was treated on the scene for hip and leg injuries before being taken to Broomfield Hospital by ambulance.

“It is unclear what condition he was in but he was conscious and breathing.”

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Police were contacted at 7.55am on September 27 with reports of a collision involving a Ducati motorbike and a refuse truck in Maldon Road, Bradwell-on-Sea. 

"Officers, the ambulance service, and air ambulance attended. The road was cleared by 9.05am."

Maldon District Council warned that due to the accident, some rural waste collections would be delayed by a day.

Cllr Ron Pratt, Chairman of Community Services said “The Council has been informed about a road traffic incident involving a motorcyclist and a waste collection vehicle in Bradwell-on-Sea.

"We understand the man was treated at the scene and transported to hospital, we have not been updated on his condition however our thoughts are with him. 

"Owing to a road traffic accident, refuse collections for some of our rural properties which are serviced by the small waste collection vehicle will be delayed by one day this week.

"All other properties and food waste collections remain unaffected and will be made on your usual collection day. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
