BURNHAM town centre came to life this weekend with the annual procession of the carnival lighting up the streets.

The carnival, which first began over a century ago, is a key date in the town’s calendar, with floats of a huge variety paving the streets in front of ever increasing crowds.

Floats this year included Art of the Village, Disney, The RNLI, Art of the Village, Burnham Sailing Club and a many more.

There were also many lookalikes floating around the town including James Bond, superheroes and princesses.

Each year the carnival raises funds throughout the week and on procession day for a selection of local charities, and this year the committee managed to raise more than £5,400.

Becca Tatlow, of the Carnival Committee, said: “After finishing the count we raised £5410.86 at the carnival this year. Well done everyone who helped yesterday and today during the count, we couldn't have done it without you.

“All of us on the Carnival committee hope people had a fantastic weekend and hope we can get some new people involved next year to make that total even higher. We would love it if more local people and groups could enter floats next year.”

Carnival Chairman Caroline Sarychkin said: “We are all so pleased that the Carnival went so well. Even the weather was perfect!

“The Committee all work very hard all year, it's absolutely fantastic that not only did several thousand people have a great day out, but we raised so much money to benefit our community.”
