A NORTH Fambridge tea afternoon has helped to raise thousands of pounds for the Essex Air Ambulance.
Shirley Masterson hosted a Royal Afternoon Tea as part of the Air Ambulance’s ‘British Afternoon Tea’ scheme.
The day as a whole raised £8,458 for the Air Ambulance and Shirley’s afternoon contributed £630 to that total.
She has always supported the Essex Air Ambulance after they attended a call for her husband three years ago.
She said: “Three years ago my husband suffered a massive heart attack and the Air Ambulance was called out.
“Unfortunately, the doctor was unable to save him but I shall always be grateful to the wonderful group of people who work tirelessly to save lives in our area.
“I tried to make my Afternoon Tea as varied as possible so it would appeal to a wide age group. I had space so the children could ice and decorate their own cupcakes.
“As it was a beautiful afternoon, they were able to play games on my lawn. More than 50 family, friends and neighbours came along.”
Shirley’s afternoon tea included a flower arranging competition, a plant stall, a raffle to win a painting by Shirley’s late husband, and a name the royal teddy competition.
Sabi Blyth, Essex fundraising manager for the Air Ambulance, said: “We are delighted everyone had so much fun hosting and attending afternoon teas across the county.
“It has raised much needed funds to keep our helicopters flying to emergencies and we want to say a big thank you to everyone who took part and supported us.”
