OVERWHELMING demand has led to a Maldon fundraiser moving venues.

The three man team at Maldon Furniture, based on the Causeway, are holding a fundraiser for ten-year-old Georgie Nye in August.

Georgie suffers from DMD (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) which affects muscle growth, causing pain and severe stiffness.

The fundraiser has received several donations and endorsements from celebrities.

After a surge in interest, the team have decided to change the venue to cope with the crowds.

The event was originally meant to be held at the Royal Oak on Fambridge Road, however it will now be held at the Ship and Anchor on Maldon High Street.

Neil Kirby, one of the minds behind the fundraiser, explained: “It has become so big and so popular that we have had to move venues.

“I do not know how many people are going to be there exactly but it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and then bigger again.”

The team has also added new celebrity endorsements from the likes of Chelsea Football Club, IBF heavyweight champion boxer Anthony Joshua, and car company Maserati.

They join Debroah Meaden from BBC’s Dragon’s Den, Carol Vorderman from Channel 4’s Countdown, John Challis from Only Fools and Horses, former Top Gear hosts Richard Hammond and James May, the local Tesco and Morrisons in donating to the fundraiser.

The event will be held on August 28 and will feature a day of live music, a BBQ and a raffle for all the donated items.
