THE WEEKEND’S heatwave saw a surge in 999 calls according to the East of England Ambulance Service.

Between July 15th and July 17th the Service received an average of 3,370 daily calls.

In the previous busiest period, Easter, the Service received 3,075 daily calls.

The ambulance team are offering advice on how best to stay safe in the hot weather.

That includes wearing loose clothing, a hat and sunglasses if you go outdoors.

They also advise staying out of the sun between 11am and 3pm where possible, as well as wearing sun cream and drinking plenty.

One of the Service’s clinical leads Dan Phillips said: “We are all happy to have some warm sunny weather and want everyone to make the most of it, but enjoy it and not end up needing to call 999.

“Our tips are especially helpful for people to share with family or friends who may not be online or who need some extra support.”
