THE High Street burglary blitz in Maldon shows no sign of stopping as another business was broken into and vandalised last week.

Bunting’s Butchers of Maldon suffered a smashed front window and ripped up floorboards on Thursday May 26 as crooks scoured the store for cash.

Brian Ridgewell, who works at the butchers, said: “I arrived in on Friday morning to see the window was broken. We initially thought it was an act of vandalism, but then noticed the doors were open and the floors had been pulled up.

“Nothing was stolen, as they were after money and we didn’t keep any in the store overnight, and our charity boxes are all locked away.

“They clearly weren’t hungry either as they didn’t steal any meat.”

Police were called to the scene and are now appealing for information.

A spokesperson said: “Police were contacted at 10.20pm on May 26 with reports of criminal damage at premises in Maldon High Street. A window had been smashed.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Essex Police on 101.”

The break-in comes in the wake of several other crimes committed on the High Street.

Green’s Groceries and Mrs Salisbury's Famous Tea Rooms were both targeted by crooks in the past month with cash and charity boxes stolen.

Brian added: “We’re thankful nothing was stolen, but it’s still a terrible thing to walk in on the morning after.”
