AN AFTERNOON tea party will be held to raise money for little girl with a rare neurological condition.

Jessica Morris, two, was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome last year.

The disorder affects the development of the brain which often begins in early childhood.

The condition affects approximately one in every 10-12,000 females and is only rarely seen in males.

Kayleigh King, whose cousin is Jessica’s mum Tracey, has organised the afternoon tea to raise money for charity Reverse Rett.

Reverse Rett supports families and helps with discoveries of new treatments which aid the symptoms.

Kayleigh said: “It effects development of the brain but she is doing a lot of things that maybe she wouldn’t do.

“She has started crawling and has just stood up as well.

“We are hoping she will walk.

“She is making really, really good progress.”

Kayleigh, 26, of Tillingham, was inspired to organise the afternoon tea after holding a successful Macmillan Coffee Morning last year.

“I was looking to do something close to me,” she said.

“[After Jessica was diagnosed] I approached Tracey and asked about it and she loved the idea.

“We have had a lot of interest and a lot of people have told us they are coming.

“Being in Tillingham everyone knows everyone and everyone knows Jessica.

“She is really loved around Tillingham.”

The event will be held on June 10 from noon at Tillingham Cricket Club, Vicarage Lane.

There will be a selection of sandwiches, scones and jam, homemade cakes and treats and a pot of tea. Tickets are £15.
