A WOMAN has launched a fundraising drive to help her friends’ children who are battling life changing illnesses.

Lisa Freedman, 43, of Ramsay Chase, Latchingdon, is hosting a charity winter wonderland ball to raise money for the Teenager Cancer Trust and a little girl with global development delay.

Christopher Lloyd, 14, of Althorne, was diagnosed with Leukaemia days before Christmas in 2014.

He is now making a good recovery but Lisa wants to raise awareness of the illness and raise money to support other families.

“Running a charity ball is something I have always wanted to do,” she said.

“A few months ago I learnt an old friend’s son had been diagnosed with Leukaemia.

“I got in touch and felt useless as a person and didn’t know what to say or do but I said I wanted to raise some money.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

“At the moment he is doing everything the doctors expect him to do and is making good progress but it is going to be a long couple of years.

“It could be up to three years before he gets the all clear.

“I really want to spread awareness of what he is going through and to encourage our community to raise money to help other children and families.”

The money will be split between the Teenager Cancer Trust and Olivia Bowyer

Olivia, 5, of Great Dunmow, has global development delay which means she develops slower than other children and has a mental age of two.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

Lisa, who runs gardening business Lisa’s Pretty Gardens, said the money would be used to help fund treatment for Olivia.

She added: “We started fundraising for the ball this week and I have already had people contacting me and giving me deposits.

“It has been a lot of planning and I started before Christmas trying to find a venue”

The ball will take place on November 26 with the venue to be confirmed.
