PROPOSALS to scrap three Maldon bus services look set to go ahead.

In September Essex County Council unveiled plans to cut three services in the Maldon district and revise or reduce a further six from next April, as part of a countywide overhaul.

A six week consultation was held with more than 150 people across the district responding to the plans.

The proposals will be reviewed at a meeting at County Hall today where Essex County Council looks set to go ahead with the cuts.

Councillors had initially been concerned about the impact on the area as Maldon District Council had forecasted 4,430 new homes will be built over the next 14 years.

But Maldon town and district councillor Stephen Savage said the changes would unify a number of routes and provide passengers with a better service.

He said: “On the face of it, it looks like the service is greatly improved. It is good news for the vast majority of people.”

The proposals will be discussed at the Essex County Council cabinet meeting at County Hall from 10am tomorrow.
