A SENIOR Burnham RNLI member has pleaded for the public to contact the coastguard on 999 immediately if it is feared a life is in danger.
The warning comes after lifeboat crews helped save a man from drowning in the River Crouch on September 7.
Lifeboat helmsman, Tony Lacey, of Southminster, said: “We have attended dogs, cats and so many other types of incidents in the past.
“We are here to save lives.
“Even if someone suspects another life is in danger, we should be contacted.”
Burnham Lifeboat Station, on Foundry Lane, will host an open day where prospective volunteers can meet the team and learn about the various roles available, on October 10 from 11am to 3pm.
