A plea has been sent to a planning inspector to approve Maldon’s housing sites before developers force permission to concrete over large swathes of the district.

Inspector David Vickery last week rejected Maldon District Council’s Local Development Plan after finding the authority had ignored a need for more traveller pitches.

The decision means there is no “land bank” of sites ready to be turned into housing and employment land over the next five years, making it difficult for councillors to block more speculative development proposals.

Now, the council has written to Mr Vickery pleading with him to release his findings on the rest of the plan, which includes proposed sites which the council believed would meet the district’s housing needs.
