Detectives, investigating an assault which left the victim with serious facial injuries, are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The victim, a 25-year-old man, was enjoying a night out at the Thomas Mildmay pub in Springfield Road, Chelmsford when the attack happened at around 11.30pm on Wednesday May 13.
An argument broke out between the victim and another man inside the pub.
After they were told to leave by pub staff, the argument continued outside and the victim was assaulted.
He was left with injuries including a broken left eye socket, a broken cheek bone and two black eyes.
Investigating officer Det Con Toby Larner of Chelmsford CID said: "The pub would have been fairly busy at the time so I am hopeful that other drinkers may have either seen this incident or be able to help in identifying the suspect involved."
The suspect is described as a stocky man aged 20-30 and he was wearing either a brown or red jumper.
Witnesses to the incident can contact Det Con Larner at Chelmsford CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
