Previously, thousands of shipwrecks, unforgiving winds, dicey tides and crammed shipping lanes have made the solo-rowing community shy away from an around-the-UK boating attempt.

But on May 31, Felsted resident and world record holding cross Atlantic champion Charlie Pitcher will attempt the venture entirely unaided.

When The Maldon and Burnham Standard caught up with Mr Pitcher, he said it will be his 'most harrowing experience yet'.
