Fire crews tackled a 100 tonne hay bale fire in Spital Road, Maldon, last night.
Two crews from Maldon were called at about 9.55pm to a large fire of bailed hay which was completely alight.
Firefighters protected the surrounding area and one appliance and crew remained on site throughout the night as a controlled burn was allowed to take place.
Crews left at 5.27am on Saturday and revisted the scene at 8am.
The controlled burn is still in progress but there is no danger of the fire spreading further.
More revisits will take place throughout the day until the fire has burned itself out.
The blaze was started accidentally.
Essex Police Special Constable Paul Austin posted this picture on Twitter at about 11pm and said: "@ECFRS dealing with a hay bale fire near to Spital Road #Maldon. Not believed to be suspicious at this time."
