A volunteer who joined the Royal National Lifeboat Institution as a boy of 19 is still saving lives 25 years later.

Tony Lacey, senior helm at the Burnham branch of the RNLI, has been going out in the lifeboat since getting involved when he was working at the marina in Burnham.

On average the lifeboat station deals about sixty call outs per year, which can range from pulling broken-down boats back to port to rescuing someone who has fallen overboard into the chilly waters of the River Crouch.

Including the 26 crew members, there are about 35 people who volunteer in different roles at the station, which is based in the Burnham Yacht Harbour, in Foundry Lane.
