A fortune does not come along every day, but through the National Lottery 3,600 people have become millionaires since 1994.
The highest ever jackpot was £161,653,000, won by Chris and Colin Weir, of Ayrshire in 2011 and the odds of winning the jackpot are almost 14 million to one, although odds rise to eight million to one for the Thunderball draw.
While most lottery entrants check their numbers religiously each week, some are not so thorough.
A lucky winner in Colchester, who won on June 21, with numbers 3,7,13,17,27,40 and a bonus of 19, is yet to claim their £389,998 prize.
The last date they can claim is 18 December.
We asked shoppers on Maldon High Street whether they would spend or save and what they would do with £1million.
Joyce Duffy, 78, of Greenways, Maldon said: “I would move and I would see my daughter, who is struggling, right.
“I’m too old to think too much about myself, I would pass it on.”
