A grandmother who once tried to Sellotape an undercooked boiled egg back together is hoping to improve her kitchen skills enough to be crowned the winner of Disaster Chef 2014.

Laura Ingham, of Fernlea Road, Burnham, is hoping to cook up a storm and change the habits of a lifetime during the competition, which sees 15 disastrous chefs learn new recipes and tips for coping in the kitchen via online tutorials.

Mrs Ingham, 58, said: “I can follow a recipe and understand the concept of cooking but I’m just not very good at it.

"My worst disaster was when I took an egg out too early and it was still runny so I stuck some Sellotape on it and put it back in the water, which ruined the egg and the pan.”

Over the next six weeks Mrs Ingham will learn a variety of new dishes before taking part in a live final in London, which will be judged by a panel including actress Hermione Norris, Martin Johns Kenwood’s development chef and chef Ben Ebbrell.
