She's travelled the globe as an athletic champion and came third in 2011’s I’m A Celebrity...in the Australian jungle.

But recently, javelin star Fatima Whitbread has taken a trip down memory lane to Burnham in a BBC programme about revisiting childhood holiday destinations.

The Olympic silver-medalist travelled to the coast in July with Strictly Come Dancing star Len Goodman to film Holiday Of My Lifetime, which aired on Friday.

Mum-of-one Ms Whitbread, who grew up in Ockendon and now lives in Brentwood, went back to Creeksea Place Caravan Park for the show, where she hopes to return again next summer.

“The people at the caravan park were very kind to us and offered for us to go back and see them again," she said.

“It’s the first time I’ve been back since the 70s and not a lot has changed - it was lovely to see the caravan park and Burnham town area.

“I always felt it was quite a forgotten town and it’s so unspoilt.”
