The latest statistics produced by Tourism South East has shown that the value of tourism to the Maldon district in 2012 was £182 million.

The district welcomes 3.1 million day visitors and 3,200 people are employed in the sector.

Council leader Bob Boyce said: “These latest statistics are truly impressive and we hope that with the continued support of the local tourism industry and our partnership work with Visit Essex, we can build on our vibrant tourism economy.”

In Essex as a whole, tourism is worth £3 billion and attracts in the region of 42 million visitors with 56,000 people employed in the sector.

Maldon District Council has applied for £375,000 in funding from the Coastal Communities Fund to carrying out projects with the aim of putting the district on the tourism map.
