Praise has been heaped on a “fantastic” male-orientated community project following its official launch.

In response to a lack of typically male orientated groups, the Maldon Shed Project was born and Monday was its official launch.

The project came about after the Maldon and District Community Voluntary Services (CVS) identified a lack of community facilities in the area specifically for men.

The group then worked with Maldon District Council on renovating the old mortuary building at Maldon Cemetery in London Road after securing £24,000 in funding.

The shed now provides a community venue with a focus on activities such as practical woodwork and gardening, where members share tools and resources they need to work on projects of their choice.

Following the launch, Maldon Town Mayor Stephen Nunn said: “I think it’s a fantastic project and I am impressed by the enthusiasm of the people involved."

The sessions take place on Wednesday 10am-1pm and 1pm - 4pm as well as Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

Booking is essential.
