A brave seven-year-old who has battled cancer three times in three years has been presented with a Most Inspirational Child award.

Laughlin Whiteley, seven, of Mildmay Road, Burnham, met Prince Harry and collected his WellChild Award from members of dance group Diversity on Monday.

The Burnham St Mary’s Primary School pupil beat a brain tumour after being diagnosed in 2011 but later developed secondary acute myleoid leukaemia as a result of the treatment and received a stem cell transplant in February.

This summer his parents Andrea Poyser and John Whiteley were given the devastating news that the leukaemia had returned and he is now back in Great Ormond Street receiving more chemotherapy to prepare him for a second stem cell transplant.

His charity, Unlock a Life for Lockey, promotes stem cell donor registration, donates craft boxes for children undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street and arranges free days to the seaside at The Happy Shack beach hut in Walton.

Dad John Whitely said: “We’re just really proud.

"It’s lovely he has been appreciated for his courage and what he’s achieved.”
